Calphalon 7-Piece Cooking Utensil Set Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Got this as a free gift for purchasing $400+ Calphalon. It wasn't as impressive as the 10pc set or the 12" Wok. Though this set is still a huge improvement over my Fabreware set.
#1 It resists heat better. The flat piece what works with the wok, you can leave it laying on the wok, and it won't leave a burn mark.
#2 The wood doesn't get damaged with water and oil.
#3 The shape & angle of the big spoon is good for soup. Sounds like tiny thing, but with a good angle, you can spoon soup easier and without getting it all over the place.
#4 It's FREE!! That alone deserves 1 extra bonus star.
If I actually had to paid $50 for this set, then it would be overpriced. Though the heat resistance is good, but really don't need to spend $50 for this. $25 - $30 is more reasonable.

Tayama Slow Cookers Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)While reading a recently-recommended cookbook for smaller slow cookers, I shopped offline for what the book recommended -- an oval slow cooker around the 1.5 to 2.0 quart range. Oval (instead of round) because the shape fits more typical ingredients such as chicken breasts.
The picture attached to the 1.5qt product looked pretty oval to me, with a wide front face unlike other small slow-cooker product pictures. The title and description also lacked an indication that it is "round" like all the other small slow-cookers.
Well, the picture is just a camera angle, and this product very, very round.
Since it's here, now, I'm using it and it indeed works, so at least 3 stars for that!

Hamilton Beach Entertainer Plus Slow Cooker Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)First off, the "slots" are way too big for toast, and there's only one. It left my bread dry and warm, but nowhere near toasted. Also, I have been unable to find the "Automatic Toast Boost" function or the crumb tray. The biggest down-side is that I can't use it as a crock pot and a toaster at the same time without my bread just getting all soggy and contaminated by whatever I'm trying to slow-cook. This crock pot has failed to entertain me at all, so I'm not sure why it's called the "entertainer." Maybe if it played some Scott Joplin... Still, deservers the 2 stars.

Progressive 50 Piece Doily Set Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Quick! Call Martha! Laughing....I love to make fun of her, yet, I admit I am envious of Ms. Stewart's tenacious inventive ingenuity. Even she would love this offering of lacy decorative paper doilies. A set of 50, in round and rectangular, in small to larger sizes, for this price--is almost unheard of.
Anyone who is proud of their baking knows how important it is to add those extra little touches. And hey, even if you do not bake---putting beautiful doilies under store bought treats, will make people think you do! I also use doilies in my crafts room, (they make great felt tracing shapers). And if I have small children visiting, some doilies and crayons make a perfect project to keep everybody happy.

Le Creuset Stoneware 20-Ounce Mortar and Pestle, Cherry Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I've had this mortar and pestle for a few years now and it's really held up well. The advantage of being stoneware is that it doesn't absorb flavors (wood) and you can safely use acids (granite), so it's very low maintenance. I would very much recommend the 20 OZ size, and even this is a little small for making guacamole for a family.

Norpro 11 Inch Small Spatula, Red Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I love the look of this spatula and I love the feel of the handle in my hand. It has a great ergonomic design and it's very easy to hold on to. What I don't like about the spatula is the same thing that a previous reviewer liked a lot so it's easy to see this spatula could be very good for some people and not so good for others. It just depends on what you want a spatula to do.
The rubber end of the spatula is just too hard for my personal preference. It's difficult to get it to scrape up anything in the bottom of a bowl because it has no "give." I like a spatula to be able to moosh a bit so I can get every last bit out of a bowl. With this spatula that's just about impossible.
The other reason I give this a two-star rating (and that's being generous) is that the rubber end came off the first time I used the spatula. It continues to come off in use and when being washed.

High Heat Resistant Nylon Fork 14"/35cm Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I have several nylon forks I use for cooking. I like them because they are relatively safe for non-stick cookware, and are flexible. They don't damage the coating. I was looking for more and could not find them in any store.
Then I found this one at Amazon, but the Amazon description is kind of sketchy, it doesn't give a whole lot of information. Checking the manufacturer's website (Norpro) I found that this a "HIGH HEAT NYLON FORK" 14" long. High heat resistant to 450F. That's about all the manufacturer's website says.
The fork is dark gray/black. It is fairly rigid, not as flexible as I'd have liked. So I reserve its use for a fork that requires its rigidity. Since it's heat resistant to 450F, it's good for use in boiling liquids, too. If you're not looking for flexibility, then this an OK product for you.

Le Creuset Stoneware 2-Quart Pitcher Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The picture doesn't quite do the coloring justice. The bottom of the pitcher is much darker than the top, ranging from a deep brown/red to a beatifully vivid fire-engine red at the top. The size is just right for sangria for four or a dozen dahlias. As a pitcher, the handle is large and comfortable, and the spout is well-designed and prevents those irritating drips that happen with shorter spouts. As a vase, it'll win you a zillion compliments. My cats have managed to knock it over a couple times, even though it's quite heavy, and there's not a chip to be seen. (This says more about the determination of the cats than about the weight or balance of the pitcher.)

Norpro Grip-EZ Deluxe Masher with Guard Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I really love this potato masher. Its handle size and shape make mashing quick and easy. Also, the metal grate at the bottom is welded, not glued, to the upper section. That's important for a few reasons. 1) This masher won't fall apart. Glue tends to give out after a few years of use. If you take good care of this masher, it could last twenty or thirty years. 2) Glue will leave tiny spaces between the pieces of metal and it'll be impossible to dig all the food out of those tiny cracks.
This masher is basic, but very reliabe. It's also small and compact for easy storage.

Progressive International Meat Pounder Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This Progressive International Meat Pounder does a good job of tenderizing boneless cuts of beef, veal and poultry. It's very easy to hold while pounding your meat, and will quickly help flatten meats to an even thickness, far better than one of those lightweight wooden mallets. I picked up one of these when my cheap (i.e. dollar store) mallet-style pounder broke the first day that I had it. Mallets meat pounders do work, but they put a bit of stress and shock on your wrist every time they make contact. You'll be able to prepare a lot of meats with this without wearing out your wrists.
This meat pounder has a stainless steel pounding surface. Its round shape is ideal for pounding meats and poultry, as well as pressing patties for hamburgers. It weighs a little more than a pound, so it's not too light or heavy to do the job at hand, and does most of the work with little effort. You can use the edge of the stainless steel disk for tougher meat cuts. The round shape is perfect for pounding and tenderizing all kinds of meat, and it's perfect for pressing beef patties for hamburgers.
You can spend a lot more on a heavier meat pounder, but you have to ask yourself if it's really necessary. This one has a comfortable design, with a durable, easy to grip handle. Since the disk is made of stainless steel, it's safe to use in the dishwasher.
I've use this for smashing peeled garlic cloves easily, and used it to break up chocolate for occasional baking as well. It has even been used to effortlessly break up ice cubes upon occasion, and is the perfect shape to put on some pot lids to weigh them down during cooking.
About the only thing that it didn't work for was crushing walnuts, and for that one really needs a nut chopper. With apologies to Vince "You'll Love My Nuts" Offer (the ShamWow guy), I'll pass and go for the Progressive International Heavy Duty Nut Chopper for that job.

There are tougher and more expensive ways to pound your meat, but this one does the job for me.

6qt Round Slow Cooker Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)My Rival 6 quart slow cooker is falling apart after only six months. First the High/Low/Off switch broke off in my hand (and no, I did not manhandle it.) Then a carrying handle broke off, spilled hot stew everywhere and scalded my hands. Then the handle for the glass lid broke off under the weight of the glass lid alone, and the other carrying handle also broke off under the weight of the EMPTY crock pot (and I mean empty -- the metal shell only without the ceramic inner bowl.) The plastic of all the handles literally disintegrated.
There's really no excuse for this, My parents bought a Hamilton crock pot in the mid 1970s that still works today (after many moves.) My first experience with a Rival Product was their 4070 Hot Pot Express (which was excellent and has served me well for 12 years, though the RIVAL 4071 replaced -- and probably improved -- the 4070.) The 6 qt. round slow cooker cannot make the same claim.
