(More customer reviews)My previous sifter has two mesh screens and two rotating wheels. The rotating wheels are activated by a squeezing handle. The most typical design. It was easy to use and quick. However, foods eventually trapped in between the mesh screens and they were impossible to get out. Washing it with water only made the matter worse. This is a very common problem. I had to replace it after only 2 months. Consequently, I shop for an old-fashion single screen sifter -- a sifter I can wash without worrying pieces trap inside the sifter.
After doing much research, I bought this Norpo 3-Cup sifter. It is made of 18/8 stainless steel, fitted with a single hemisphere mesh screen and a rotatable 4-wire agitator. The stainless steel body is rigid and the rotatable hand crank is smooth. Washing it is simple. The sifting is easy and the resulting flour is good. The price tag was slightly less than $10 which is very cheap, especially it was offered via the 4-for-3 program, so I probably only paid ~$8 for it.
Now, there are issues when I get this product. Although the product arrived relatively undamaged, it was not packed properly and it could have been badly damaged. The mesh screen was pushed slightly out of shape when it arrived and I had to mold it back to allow better contact with the 4-wire agitator. I assume the product was fine when it left the factory and the mesh screen was altered during shipping. These two problems do not directly speak about this product, but rather the potential problems when buying online. Because this is a single mesh screen sifter, the sifted flour is not quite as fluffy as my previous two screens sifter. Although the rotating action of this sifter is pretty simple, it is still not as simple to use as the hand-squeeze ones. In addition, the sifter action from the agitator can flick tiny amount flour outside of the cup, causing you to clean up the mess afterall. Despite its minor drawbacks, this sifter provides exactly what I am looking for and I am very happy.
I highly recommend this sifter if you are looking for a functional sifter which foods will not get stuck and easy to wash.

I use the largest size to make hamburger buns, the smaller sizes to make bite size cookies. There's sizes perfect for sandwich cookies,sugar cookies and biscuits. You have a choice of scalloped edge or flip it over and use a straight edge. They've easily cut every type dough I've used them on and they come packaged in a clear round container than keeps them all together instead of being scattered in different drawers and cabinets. I have two large boxes of cookie cutters but this is the set I always reach for.

If a half dozen of them were purchased so that each person at a dinner party could have their own little personal salt cellar, then I suppose they would be good for that, but as something to store salt in next to the stove for easy use and access, it's just not big enough. Also the lid just kind of sits on top and doesn't really have any ridge to speak of to hold it in place.

Fox Run French Onion Soup Bowl, Brown Review

(More customer reviews)To me the 'French' in French Onion Soup means with melted cheese on top. Otherwise it is just Onion Soup. This is not easy to do with just any soup bowl since a) the melted cheese should cling (attach itself) to the sides of the bowl and b) since the last step is baking the soup in the bowl in the oven, a handle is really necessary. This bowl is the right size and shape.
I was doubtfull when ordering because of the low price but both bowls (came as a set of two) were perfect.
I wasn't too interested in the bowls having lids but they are a nice addition to keep the soup hot from serving until eaten and helps keep the cheese melted. I recommend this set.

(More customer reviews)I delayed purchasing this for months, waiting for the price to come down. It never did. I didn't like spending $15 for this, but it really does look great and work very well. The dispenser came in its own box (in addition to the Amazon shipping box), and inside the box the dispenser was wrapped in plastic. It was wrapped so well that I even decided to use the straws that came with it, which I had intended on throwing away due to my previous experiences with dirty kitchenware from Amazon.
The dispenser does hold 100 straws, but 75 fit and fan out a little better. When the lid is lifted, the straws lift up and fan out, just like old-fashioned glass dispensers, and then they return easily back into the dispenser when the lid is set back down. The dispenser is about 10.5 inches tall from the base to the top of the knob.
The bottom silver-colored cup that holds the bottoms of the straws was a little crooked, but that was easily remedied by just lifting the whole inner unit out of the acrylic tube and screwing the bottom on better (it's attached to the stem, which is riveted like a screw at the bottom, with an ordinary nut).
After seeing and using this first-hand, I've decided maybe it was worth what I paid. Maybe.

Update December 2009: After use multiple times per day this grinder is still working as well as the day it was new. The only work I have done on it was to add a nylon washer at the base of the adjustment mechanism to stop the noise of metal on metal sliding contact which developed after a couple of months.
Assembly: The grinder came in a nearly assembled state; assembly consisted of removing the top thumbscrew, placing the handle on the grinder shaft, and replacing the top thumbscrew. Total time: about 10 seconds
Construction: The actual grinder assembly appears to be of cast iron with a tapered burr rotating inside a stationary sleeve. The handle, bowl, and support / adjustment mechanism are of stamped steel. The burr and handle are connected by a steel shaft. The housing is made of painted hardboard. The drawer is made of unpainted hardboard.

Grind Adjustment: The coarse to fine adjustment of the grind is accomplished by loosening the handle, then holding the shaft while turning an adjustment washer. This moves the burr up or down within the sleeve and closes or opens the passage area (a larger passage = coarser grind).
Initial setup: Add some coffee beans to the bowl and turn the handle 10 - 20 revolutions. Remove the drawer and assess the grind characteristics. If it is too fine or too coarse for your purpose, adjust as required and repeat until it is as desired. The grinder is now ready to use.
Normal usage: Add coffee beans to the bowl and turn the handle to grind, then remove the drawer and remove the ground coffee. At the fairly fine setting I prefer, it takes around 40 turns of the handle to grind enough coffee beans for a strong cup.
Conclusion: Make no mistake - this is close to the bottom end of the manual coffee grinder scale and certainly won't win you any bonus points with those who want a coffee grinder as a status symbol. The drawer is a bit disappointing in terms of it's size (small) and material(bare hardboard) but for one or two cups worth of grounds it is sufficent, and I would not want to use this for grinding coffee for more than one or two cups at a time. On the other hand, you put coffee beans in, turn the crank, and they come out ground the way you want them. At it's price it does what I ask of it.

(More customer reviews)My recipe made exactly 24 cookies, they came out perfect. You wouldn't want to wash the sheet and start again - besides, the batter deflates if it sits around. I painted softened butter on with a pastry brush and dusted lightly with flour from a shaker. The cookies lifted right out and were beautifully browned. Always prepare pans before you start mixing so you can fill immediately. Madeleines are easy, and such a hit, you'll bake them often. This will justify the cost if you're thinking it's a little high.

The top plate with holes is more or less a permanent fixture in my oven, as its easier to clean than oven racks, and I use the bottom pan as a baking dish. I like that it's stainless steel,which is supposed to be a safe metal to cook/bake in and yet easy to clean.
I would have given it 5 stars, had it not been for the somewhat sharp sides. Otherwise the quality seems to be good. Get it!

Kitchen drawers can quickly become unruly without the use of some sort of drawer organizer. This thoughtfully designed kitchen accessory works great for keeping utensils organized and neatly stacked. It slides easily into almost any kitchen drawer and expands from 9-3/4 to 16-1/4 inches to take full advantage of larger-size drawers. The unit provides three sections for forks, knives, and spoons. (More customer reviews)I bought the casserole, and let me tell you, everything I love about the French oven is present right here. Wider than the oven, it is, of course, shallower, but it still holds a healthy amount of food. Certainly it's big enough for a good-size casserole. It's also great for browning meat before baking. I find that pork chops (holds four small or 3 porterhouse chops comfortably) browned in a little olive oil, then smothered in vegetables and slow baked (covered, always covered!) at about 325 in this casserole, turn out moist and juicy and tender, with a gorgeous brown sauce that you can turn into gravy or just spoon over the chops. The vegetables emerge aromatic and tender. Everyone is happy, and the world spins contentedly for one more night. This is a high quality piece of kitchenware; since I got the French oven I've been sold on Le Creuset, and I'm here to sing its praises. Things don't burn unless you're not paying attention, and cleanup is a marvel. Who needs non-stick when you have enameled iron? The red, as I've said elsewhere, is very jolly, and might even provoke you to flights of Gaulic fancy (Vous: Et pour dejuner, les escargots en casserole! Les enfants: EUUUUUUUU) There are more sedate colors available, but I do recommend the red if you have a frivolous bone in your body.
