(More customer reviews)After reading several bad reviews I had decided not to get it - even though, at the price, 10 cup size and strong engine power of 500 watts it seemed the best deal compared to other brands that cost twice as much, or even more.
Anyway, I had written it off until I happened to see a unit on display at Target and was able to touch it and inspect it for myself. It looked perfectly fine to me. The blade seemed thick and sturdy. I checked out how the lid opens and closes etc and couldn't find anything visibly wrong with it. Maybe you have to get used to it, and not use brute force on any parts, but it's not rocket science. So I ended up buying it.
When I tried it out at home I was careful not to force any parts. There are two safety features. The first one is that the lid needs to be locked. The second one is that the cup needs to be locked as well, with the handle aligned in the front (as seen in the product picture above). If it's not in that position it won't start!!! At first mine wouldn't start, and I thought I had bought a lemon - until I figured it out. (Yeah, I don't read product manuals either).
It's been only 2 days, but so far it's been working just fine. I don't know what kind of miracles other "more advanced" machines can perform, but I am happy with what this unit does for me: it chops up stuff!
Is it loud? I can only compare it to my Oster blender. It's less noisy than the blender. After a few uses I became more familiar with working the lid etc. I'll be using it a lot and should it break down anytime soon I guarantee I will back here posting about it. Until then, this one gets two thumbs up. It's a solid product and a bargain at this price.

(More customer reviews)While reading a recently-recommended cookbook for smaller slow cookers, I shopped offline for what the book recommended -- an oval slow cooker around the 1.5 to 2.0 quart range. Oval (instead of round) because the shape fits more typical ingredients such as chicken breasts.
The picture attached to the 1.5qt product looked pretty oval to me, with a wide front face unlike other small slow-cooker product pictures. The title and description also lacked an indication that it is "round" like all the other small slow-cookers.
Well, the picture is just a camera angle, and this product very, very round.
Since it's here, now, I'm using it and it indeed works, so at least 3 stars for that!

Hamilton Beach 55102 Blender Replacement Parts Review

(More customer reviews)Hamilton Beach has made their cutter blades the same way for over twenty years - as far back as I can remember. And I've used a lot of them. Never had any problems with them. A couple years ago, they came out with the so-called "wave-action" cutter blade. The new cutter blades are a disaster - an example of how to take a perfectly good design and ruin it. What the wave-action blades do - is slosh everything around in the blender jar, creating a mess. It splashes all over the top cover lid. Not only that, but the new cutter blades leak around the bottom, where the round flat rubber seal goes. That's another thing they changed. The rubber seal that sits below the cutter blades is less in width. Since I do a lot of blending, I have four blender jars and four of these new wave-action blades. All they do is create a mess inside the blender jar and are for more prone to leaking. I have to tighten the base far more than I ever had to in the past. And they still leak.
With all that in mind, I set out looking for some of the old-style blades. I finally found them - or so I thought. I ordered four of these old-style cutter blades. The photo shown on Amazon clearly shows the old style cutter blade. Ah, but everything is not as it seems. To put icing on the cake, Hamilton Beach has done something downright [...]. Get this - they show the old style blades on the front of the box, but are putting the new style blades inside. What's shown on the box does not represent what's inside. The picture you see here on Amazon, does not represent what's in the box. Look at the two photos I've uploaded that clearly shows this. [...]
Update 3/20/07. I did eventually find the old-style cutter blades on Amazon. Do a search for "Hamilton Beach Commercial Bar Blender Blade". I've ordered several of these and can verify these are like the old-style blades.

(More customer reviews)First off, the "slots" are way too big for toast, and there's only one. It left my bread dry and warm, but nowhere near toasted. Also, I have been unable to find the "Automatic Toast Boost" function or the crumb tray. The biggest down-side is that I can't use it as a crock pot and a toaster at the same time without my bread just getting all soggy and contaminated by whatever I'm trying to slow-cook. This crock pot has failed to entertain me at all, so I'm not sure why it's called the "entertainer." Maybe if it played some Scott Joplin... Still, deservers the 2 stars.

Maybe if you totally filled it, crammed in more than you should, items would stand straight up. However, for me at least, utensils are constantly flopping over, looks messy, takes more space. (More customer reviews)Compared to my favorite Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 8-Quart Stock Pot, the Le Creuset 8-Quart Stockpot is much lighter and easier to lift and carry when filled with liquid. This stockpot is not enamel-coated cast iron like the Le Creuset pots and pans, but the colors are identical. It heats up very quickly in comparison, too. Soups, stews, and stocks cook well in this pot because the lid is tight-fitting. I would like it for a second stock pot in this size. I like the Calphalon stock pots better because they all have pasta or steamer inserts.
The Le Creuset Red Pots are not the same cherry red like their famous heart-shaped 2-Quart Pan, but a slighter deeper shade.

(More customer reviews)Previous reviewer noted correctly that they are made of chrome-plated steel (as specified on Norpro website and on packaging and physical inspection); the reference to stainless steel seems to have been removed; most of the cooling racks by other brands (chicago metallic, kaiser, etc.) are also chrome-plated steel.
As for the rack itself, I have purchased 6 of them and have been satisfied; the construction is sturdy since there is the hatch design with diagonal cross-bars; I would beware of other brands that simply have parallel wires with just a few cross bars as I have discovered this construction is flimsy and bows a great deal when you put weight on it.
