Doesn't chip easily - no chips yet, and lid fits nicely - rubber gasket lets it go on smoothly, but the gasket does not create an air-tight seal. The medium canister I use for a 5 pound bag of sugar. Color is very pretty. At the time of purchase I wanted a set not made in China. This was the best I could find. And I am very pleased with it. But I would recommend one also look at canisters made by Hartstone Pottery - this is a U.S. company based in the midwest, and their products are produced in the midwest.
