It looks good sitting on the counter (infinitely better than the plastic bucket we used to use), and we've had no trouble with odors or fruit flies, which have been mentioned in reviews of other Norpro ceramic compost keepers. It is kind of heavy, but nothing that a normal adult would have any trouble with. And the handle has come off the post a couple of times, but it's simple to slip it back on. We wash it out each time we empty it, and every couple of weeks we pop it in the dishwasher (including the filter), and it comes out good as new. Before I bought it, I was worried that the decoration might wear off, but that hasn't been an issue at all. Generally, it holds 1 or 2 days' worth of compost for our small household.
