(More customer reviews)This storage jar arrived in good condition and in good time. As a storage jar it certainly does the job. The blue lid is attractive. The metal clamp and rubber ring create a tight seal.
However, for the purpose of making sour dough starter in this jar, it falls short of its intended usage. Typically, directions call for a container of six quarts capacity when making a bread starter. The capacity is inadequate if this is your intended purpose. In addition, its shape does not allow the pictured whisk (see my review) to enter the mouth of the jar and instill air into the starter.
Improvising, I used a six quart handled bowl to mix and whisk my starter in. When I had sufficient starter, I placed it into the Bormioli Fido storage jar and left it for several hours UNCOVERED in the refrigerator. The cold de-activates the yeast. Once that occurs, it's safe to seal the jar using the metal clamp. This method will allow you airtight storage.
If you have a less expensive, airtight, alternate storage container, use it.
