(More customer reviews)I made it to a Le Creuset outlet store and purchased 2 pairs of these oval stoneware mini casseroles (first quality, not factory seconds or anything). I kept one pair (kiwi green, flame) for myself, and gave the other pair (cactus green, red) as a gift to one of my cooking partner housemates. The list price for each mini casserole at the outlet store was $18, and I received an additional 25% off my total at the cash register due to some in-store promotion. I have no problem with these stoneware casseroles not being made in France (just be aware that they are not made in France if this matters to you), and am pleased with the quality of the ones I picked out. I will add that while at the outlet store I did have to search through several items in each color before finding examples without minor visual blemishes in the exterior enamel, but then I'm picky.
Yes, these casseroles are "small" with their 12 oz capacity, and a bit spendy, but they are great for small, rich sides. Together with my housemate, I've made chocolate souffles, potato gratins, and creme brulee, and served individual soup portions in them for the dinners we occasionally hold with my other housemates. I've also microwaved artichoke dip in them, and having the lid eliminates the need for plastic wrap to avoid food splatter when using these casseroles to reheat things in the microwave. I'm going to try mini pies in them in the future.
While I could've bought something cheaper that has the same microwave- and oven-safe capabilities (assorted ramekins at restaurant supply stores work just as well), I confess I bought these more for their looks than for their functionality. I like their shape (as miniature oval dutch ovens or casseroles) and their lovely colors. My housemate and I leave these out on the dining room table since they make such nice eye candy. I wouldn't include these in a list of essential bakeware/tableware, but I feel that they do exactly what is claimed in the product description, and look nice to boot.

Sleek and stylish, this mini oval cocotte by Le Creuset brings both beauty and versatility to any kitchen collection. The charming dish, which measures approximately 5-2/3 by 4-3/5 by 3-2/7 inches, provides a narrow, space-saving 12-ounce capacity--the perfect size for crowded dinner tables or for serving individual side dishes such as broccoli and cheese, potatoes au gratin, artichoke dips, and more.
Made from durable stoneware, the cocotte features a hard-wearing, impermeable finish fired at temperatures as high as 2192 degrees F. With a porosity level of less than 1 percent, the dish blocks moisture absorption, so there's no chipping, cracking, crazing, or rippling along the interior to worry about. Its non-porous construction also resists odors, scratching, and staining for hygienic use and optimal cooking performance. Even more, its high-quality enamel protects against metal marks and other damage, which means it's safe for cutting on with knives. Best of all, the glaze on the exterior makes the dish fun to mix and match with other coordinating Le Creuset pieces (sold separately), while a neutral-colored glaze on the inside offers a pleasing contrast and an optimal palette for food presentation. And thanks to its unmatched thermal resistance from -65 degrees F to 500 degrees F, the dish moves gracefully from the microwave or oven (or under the broiler) to the table for serving to the refrigerator or freezer for storing leftovers. The dish includes a secure-fitting lid with a round-shaped knob to help trap heat and moisture, and its loop side handles facilitate steady transport. When finished, the cocotte cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher.
