My wife came from mainland China and has been settling with me in America over the last year. She's always said she wants to pickle vegetables like she did in ChongQing China. We've been amazed at the lack of pickling vessels in America, like she had in China. They are hard to locate in the States and what we can find are very expensive.
Then I located this curious little jar on Amazon and purchased it as a birthday gift for her. She was so happy, she immediately stuffed it with vegetables. One thing I noticed when it first arrived was, it appeared very fragile. Just tapping the side of the jar with my fingernail, it felt very thin. This concern proved very true when she moved the full jar to the sink and took the top off. She gently placed the top in the sink next to the jar and moved the jar slightly. The top merely tapped against the side of the jar and *CRACK*! A large crack snaked across the glass and a chunk blew out due to the weight of the contents in the glass.
Looking closely at the cracked glass, the glass on the side of the jar appears about 1/32". It is *very* fragile and thin. We now understand why it was so cheap.
So, we send you this friendly warning... It is a glass jar that functions just like a pickling vessel in China. The only difference is this jar is extremely fragile. If you purchase it, treat it like fine China because, in some respects, it's a lot more fragile!
